So, here it is ... the first day of school for all my girls. A is off to her 2nd year in high school, 10th grade. I realized when I was out on a date night with her Friday that in a couple of years we'll be thinking about college and that my friends, is sort of startling. T is in 3rd grade this year and ready for new challenges. M starts 1st grade today -- we made pretty good progress on teaching her to read this summer. And then there's S, my baby, just turned 5 at the beginning of August and now off to Kindergarten, full day Kindergarten.

Today the house will be mostly quiet -- no snacks to make, no lunches to fuss over. No one needing a nap in the middle of the afternoon. For the last 8 years or so, I've had one of the last 3 girls with me *every* day for at least part of the day. This is a change for me, I think I'm ready for it .. but sometimes ... well ... sometimes it stops me short.

I'm happy, I am, but I am sad too -- I think I'll miss having a little companion to *help* me with all my stuff sometimes. They really do grow up fast.

Now though, I'm off to Starbucks with another mom from school to ease into this new phase.....

You've always been the sort of mom I wanted to be if I could be. Balancing every interest and life choice seemlessly while raising a handful of beautiful daughters. You may feel sad at the transition but its just another step and accomplishment in your wonderful child-reering and I salute you for it dear. By the by coming back Home end of sept for a week I will make sure you get my cell number between now and then

Couple of years???? Sophomore is SAT/ACT prep year. Junior year is research junior scholarships, tour colleges, take the tests, get financial aid together, make final year course choices and start working on application essays and letters of recommendation. Senior year is shell out the bucks, all applications (colleges, scholarships, financial aid) in by New Years and hopefully have lots of great choices to make together in the spring.

Enjoy!!!!! :)

Congrats honey! It's a huge accomplishment, both for you and them. It does go fast, so often I'm out with Jamie and strangers approach me. They always cluck over Jamie nicely and she smiles at them and babbles. Then the leave me with a wistful, Enjoy it! They grow up so fast!

I am not looking forward to Gabe's first day of school...already it seems like he's grown too fast. And having a discussion with Dylan yesterday about public education...I looked at him hard and I realized just how grown-up he's become.

*hugs* You deserve some quiet though, because all of them will just be bursting with news when they get home.

Enjoy this new phase of life. What would you like to do while they are in school? Besides, laundry, errands, cleaning, soccer mom and everything else!

*hug* yeah, they really do..... btw, ever hear a song called "Then They Do"?

it's all about the growing up......i look at H (at 15 months) and just go - wow, where did it all go with mine? (the real answer is in a blur of sleep deprevation but sshhhhhuuuuussshhhhhh)

my oldest starts high school next year, and my baby is in 4th grade starting in the morning......i really DON'T know where it's gone, but i want to hang on with all my strength sometimes - and then i REALLY understand how well my mom did the "send em out but let em know they can always come home" *soft smile* i miss her SO much.....

enjoy the new opprotunities *hug* you've earned them - see you in Dec?

Yeah, it's a real eye-opener. My big *blink* this year was that, for the first time ever, neither of my kids are attending the local elementary school.

*jaw drop*
