I wanted to post about Mardi Gras

I had a great time at the TNG Mardi Gras party last night ... but it pales in comparison to being woken up this morning at 4am by my teenager, who had (and still has) a fever so high that she was having small febrile seizures. Poor baby, I sat at her side in the dark sponging her head with a cool washcloth, giving her a few homeopathics and waiting for dawn so I can take her over to the pediatrician.

She's as tall as me now, but I still wanted to pull her into my lap and let her sleep on my shoulder. I'm sure it's the flu, but *gah* I wish I could be sick for her. I hate it when she suffers.

Sending healing thoughts, energy and hopes to your little one (even though she's as tall as you she still counts as that).

Stay strong and push fluids yourself. This flu is a wicked one.

Tis the season. My oldest just came down from a 5-day fever (followed by two weeks of horrible cough that drove me to take him to the ped for the first time in probably 5 years or more). At least when they are little we can mother them to our fullest, bring them into our beds, nurse them back to health. Hugs....

Not Good

Keep us posted.

Those kind of fevers worry the hell out of me.

I really hope she gets better soon...

I have to ask, though, why homeopathics, widly held by studies around the world to be useless (and in this case, useless=dangerous), rather than normal antipyretics (Ibu, Tylenol, Naproxen, Aspirin, etc.)?

Sorry. I don't want to be attacking you, but I think that homeopathics are voodoo and, in the case of a dangerous fever, relying on them is a bad bad idea.

:-/ First off it's really her choice. ... And not particularly your place to be questioning it.
Second some "homeopathics" are just baser versions of OTC- as the antipyretics are derived from plants. Like the willow tree. Hum. Eitherway, doing things like cooling at pulse points is actually more effective than applying Ibuprofin, etc. Strictly physiologically.

On a seperate note, I hope your lass gets better Mym, just keep workin' it.

I haven't seen any studies regarding them as useless, and I have used homeopathy with great success for the last 7 or so years. It's not that I don't use normal OTC drugs - she's had tylenol and motrin, but I was using the homeopathy in addition to what she'd already had.

And yes Bait, it came across as a bit of an attack - I'm her mother, an EMT and a student midwife - gimme some credit here, you've known me long enough to know I'm not some kind of nut for chrissakes.
