if you're doing Metro, McPherson Square or Metro Center stations are about equal 3 block walks from Old Ebbitt ... it is directly across from the Treasury Department on 15th Street ...

Gotta tell ya, though: the Old Ebbitt Grill can be quite crowded and noisy. I don't know whether the bar I've been to there is the "Back Bar" or whether there's another bar, but I thought even the bar was crowded.

My fave place -- stylish and with a great menu of mezze -- is Zaytinya, 701 Ninth St. NW, which is one block from the Gallery Place Metro station. Not sure about "trouble," but it can be fun to browse the galleries around there before or after.

Or you could catch the 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. flamenco show at Cafe Citron in Dupont Circle (1343 Connecticut Ave. NW) and get sloshed on mojitos while harrassing my ex-Dom (the singer) between sets. LOL (I told

Before or after, you could go north (across the circle) to the Lambda Rising bookstore (1625 Connecticut), Leather Rack (1723 Connecticut) and/or the Pleasure Place (1710 Connecticut Ave.).

True, but we didn't go to those retail establishments. Only had time to stroll to the circle park and then to Kramerbooks to eat. She might not want to go there again, but it's just a thought because that area probably has more adult retail than other places in town.

I'll see what she's up for ... the Flamenco place looks interesting ... or maybe we'll hit Georgetown for a bit. Thanks for the suggestions babe :)

oooh, I hope you've had a good time wherever you ended up, but I second the vote for Zaytinya sometime - the atmosphere is crisp and airy and modern, lots of BLUE (I love BLUE), and they have a fantastic apricot drink that I can't get enough of.

Charlie and I are fans of Chef Jose Andres (http://www.starchefs.com/chefs/JAndres/html/restaurant.shtml), and for a brief moment before more children and private school tuition and business ventures sucked up all our discretionary spending money, we used to go out for dinner downtown sometimes - and his venues were among our favorites.

Other possibilities:

1) Capitol Hill: Either Union Station or the "restaurant rows" either along Massachusetts east of Union Station (Union Station Metro) or along Pennsylvania (200-300 blocks SE) (Capitol South Metro). In the latter area, Hawk n' Dove is one of the oldest Capitol Hill bars (though not upscale).

2) Adams Morgan: LOTS of stuff always going on there. Maybe go to Tryst, the coffeehouse. The DC Arts Center is roughly across the street.
