Today, four years ago, I said goodbye to [livejournal.com profile] wilfulcait - today it looks like I'll be helping a new baby into the world.

It's a good day.

PS - Check your breasts and testes, we want you around for a long time!

Even when your day starts at 1:00 am. I went to cover a birth for another birth assistant. They are a lovely young couple.... a really self-possessed sweet gal of only 28 having her *4th* baby. They welcomed their son Cole into the world this morning at 4:25am. He had a lot to say about this new world ... starting right after his head came out, but the rest of him was still in! Mama, Papa, 2 sisters and 1 brother couldn't be happier.

And I made it home in time to take my girls to school.

Now, I sleep.

This morning my client called me at 12:48am to let me know it was time to come. She's been calling me every day now for a week with contractions ... They live just past the high school where Widgeon goes... which is to say, about 5 minutes from my house by car. I got there at 1am ... and at 1:15 Juliet Marie rushed into the world. I didn't even get my gloves on, and the midwife barely made it around her to catch :)

I was home before the sun came up and I still haven't had enough sleep, but it's all good.

This month has been busy with my having 4 clients all due this month.

Well, in some strange turn ... every birth this month has been an overnighter - starting the afternoon before and going all through the night and me getting home at 7 or 8am in the morning.

Last night completed the quartet with baby girl Mia Dylan making her way into the world at 3:57am at 6 pounds even and 19 inches long. She had a very large cry for such a small girl and she had a lot to say about being out in the world.

I got to watch yet another cold and beautiful sunrise this month. Sleep did not come soon enough as I had yet another plumbing issue to deal with, but I finally snuck in 4 hours sometime after 10am.

Love my job! Really not wild about the hours .....

It's a good thing that my job doesn't have a dress code....

Because then no one considers it completely odd that I showed up at last night's birth in a crop top and bellydance pants (yes, that means I had a bare belly). I thought I had a shirt in the car, but that was in the other bag ... not the one I grabbed on the way out of the house. *doh*

Anyway, this morning at 1:20 am - baby boy Micah James made his entrance into the world. Mom, Dad and his two older brothers are thrilled. And after a satisfying evening of work well done, it was nice to fall into bed at 4:30am - well before the sun rose.
