I try not to stereo type, really I do - but sometimes I just can't help it. My ex married a real b*tch - and she's a real step-monster to my oldest daughter A (who's 14). There have been many incidents over the years, but last night takes the cake.

A was singing at a choral concert last night at school. She told Lisa that she would be done at 8:30pm, and would be waiting for her outside the school. Last night at 9:10pm (40 minutes later) I get a call from Lisa telling me she doesn't know where A is. What the f*ck?! What do you mean you don't know where she is? And how come _I'm_ getting a call 40 minutes after the fact? Lisa goes into this sob story about how Jim (my ex) is on a business trip and she's got the boys by herself and one of them is sick and she just couldn't wait around...and no, A doesn't have her cell phone (she called it and it's at the house with Lisa). No, Lisa didn't call her A's best friends and no, she still doesn't know where A is.... Lisa just left and went home to call me.

So, I jump in the car headed straight for the school - halfway over the phone rings and it's A telling me that she just got done with the concert and could I please give her a ride home. Thank god, because in the span of a few minutes, I had envisioned getting to the school and it being dark and closed and no sign of her .... just hearing her voice was enough to make me cry. Apparently the concert got started late, and by the time A's group got up it was just 8:30, and she was unable to call and let anyone know they were running late. And honestly, I expect that out of a 14 year old.... what I didn't expect was how irresponsible Lisa was .... you don't just leave your kid, a kid, *any* kid behind because you waited for 20 minutes and they didn't show up. At the very least, she could of locked the other kids in the car for a few minutes, ran into the school and found out what was going on. Or maybe she could of f*cking called me from _her_ cell phone to let me know A wasn't there and she wanted to/needed to leave the school and could I please come over to help ... you don't wait until 40 minutes after the fact and then call me.

So I drove A home - who's upset because she knows how mad Lisa is, and she knows that Lisa is gonna yell at her. Lisa calls out the upstairs window "thanks" - she wasn't even going to come down - so I start in telling her she shouldn't of waited to call me. She finally comes down the stairs, out onto the porch, looks me in the eye and says "I hope you're not going to give me shit about this" - OMFG, it took every ounce of self-restraint I had not to punch her in the face. You leave my kid behind in the dark at school, call me 40 minutes later, and then tell me not to give you shit?!!! Bleh .. the only thing that keeps me civil is not wanting to end up in court. Not for custody - for giving her the pounding she deserves....

*sigh*
