What a way to start the day
Jan. 10th, 2006 12:50 pmIt seems like forever since I've posted about a birth. The call came in at 4:50am this morning. I was out the door by 5:10, tea bags tucked in my pocket and a bagel in hand. They just live on the other end of the PW parkway, so there was no traffic - there were, however, stupid people trying to run red lights because they aren't looking right in front of them *grrrr* No, I didn't get hit....
Arrived in plenty of time ... her contractions were meandering, but since this was her 3rd baby, I was pretty sure when she warmed up, she'd go quick. And .. she did. By 7:00 or so she was moaning through the contractions. Her Mom and sisters (17 & 13) had arrived to take care of the two (soon to be) older sisters. We were going to try the tub, then the shower, then it was up to the bedroom - all that moving around meant she was looking for the right place. We finally got her settled and by 8:05am she started pushing. At 8:13am, Phoebe Grace made her appearance into the world surrounded by all her family. Their oldest child (who is about 4) cut the cord. She was very excited at first, but when it didn't cut through all the way, she kept saying "I am being *very* brave" (and she was).
Postpartum was followed by a hearty McD's breakfast (which tasted divine) and tea. Now I'm home and off to take a quick nap before taking my girls to the dentist.
Off to Happy Hour tonight ... who's coming?
