Found both passport(s) and birth certificates for Q and I -- and had a helpful phone call from [livejournal.com profile] wilfulcait on how to get things expidited. I'll have to work on this over the afternoon. But if you have more helpful suggestions, pass 'em on.

I've always had the quickest response from the Post Office at Ben Franklin Station on Pennsylvania Ave. across the street from te Old Post Office Pavilion -- they are a full service passport office, rarely crowded, average waiting time of 15 minutes, and the guys who run it have been there a long time and know how to make the system work. You can expedite with them, and they are courteous.

what if I don't have actual tickets? I just have an itinerary from cheap tickets?

I dont know-- worth going to see them and finding out. Most it will cost is a metro ride and a bit of time.

If you have your travel tickets, you can get passports "rush" within (I think it's 14) days of the tickets being needed. It's pricey, but it works. Good luck!

At least one friend of mine has recently used an itinerary to get a passport expedited, rather than actual tickets. See description here for the process.

Are you aware that you don't actually need a passport to go to Canada at this point? A birth certificate and driver's license is quite sufficient. (The rules will be changing, but not in time for this trip.)

That was me :)

Since you've already found your birth certificates - you just need those and drivers licenses

Yes, I know, I'm traveling there again this year, and it would just be easier to go ahead and get them soonish.

Plus, maybe someone will sweep me away for a surprise overseas trip to somewhere :)

Anyone ... ?
