A career first

As an midwife assistant I normally meet a client (in person) for the first time at their 36 week home visit to make sure they are ready for their upcoming arrival. Normally the baby arrives anytime in between that visit and the 6 weeks following.

Yesterday I went from meeting my July couple (baby was technically due July 3rd) to helping them have their baby less than 15 hours later! She was mildly contracting yesterday at our 10am visit. Last night, after lapsedagnostic celebrated our anniversary dinner at the Cheesecake Factory I got a call to let me know they were on their way into the birth center. A bouncing baby boy arrived this morning at 3:51am, weighing in at 6lbs, 14oz.

No sleep to speak of -- I left the birth center at 9:15am and drove straight to my daughter's school for a special presentation. I think I finally got to fall into bed sometime around noon, only to be awoken at 3pm after a misunderstanding. I'm exhausted but otherwise pleased.

From meeting to birth in less than 24 hours .... some kind of sweet and crazy.

My weight at birth was 12 pounds and 13 ounces. I was a week early, and my mother claims that of her four children, I was the easiest birth.

Wow! :-)But at least you could say you weren't exactly a stranger to the mom! :-D Let's see... I "knew" MY birth assistant, for over five YEARS before the birth - and it was still quick, wasn't it? ;-)
