So tonight we are ..

Tonight Q and I have our initial appointment with a counselor. And while I'm looking forward to it, and I am glad we're going .. I'm nervous. Me? I can pretty much talk to anybody ... Q? Well, it depends on the person. I'm mildly concerned we're just going to sit there, or that I will like her and he won't. And given that there is not exactly a lot of counselors that advertise, much less understand the more interesting parts of our lifestyles (poly, kinky, etc.) it might be a bit before we can find someone else.

I know that we're both commited to working through our communication issues though and that alone is enough to keep me going.

Up front and direct is the approach I find most effective, and the approach I recommend to others. I have come to realize this approach is not as easy for others to implement.

Having an uninvolved 3rd party might really help you get things rolling the way you want. Just open up and let it go. The fact both you and Q are committed to working on this makes it all the better (1 sided 'solutions' are never really effective in my view).

And, while it may be hard work, it's good work.

I am so glad that C. and I did it _before_ we moved in together. Even now, we don't speak the same language, and we probably never will, but we have enough of a common tongue that we do make it work.
