I'm not holding my breath on this one ... but there is rumours afloat of a sequel to Serenity. Thanks [livejournal.com profile] orlacarey for the link!

Given the first one sank like a stone at the box office, I'll Belive It When I See It (tm).

And yet it is still being shown in theatres. And the Firefly audience continues to grow.

I think the box office problems are due more to bad marketing than anything else.

Not to be a pisser, but while Universal might be interested in making one, Joss Whedon has all but said that the story arc is complete, and he's not interested in returning there.

If Joss doesn't do it, then it shouldn't be done, I think.

With that said, he might change his mind if Universal persuades him with enough cash.

Joss signed a contract to do a movie with an option for Universal to ask for two more.

Joss did try to close off the River story, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have other stories he wants to tell in the Firefly 'verse.

Of course... but contracts are broken all the time (just ask Peter Jackson and New Line Cinemas), and as I said, Whedon himself said last year that he had no interest in returning to the 'Verse for stories.

If that changes, I'd be happy to see what he makes. That's why I predicated my reply with "Not to be a pisser..."

squeee! Not that I think it will happen, with Cap't Tightpants a resident on Wisteria Lane now...but it's nice to think about.

A prequel wouldn't be bad. Right after Mal put together everyone on the boat. Plus, they never got around to how come Book knew alla that stuff about the Operative...

Remember when Book got injured really badly and they had to contact an Alliance ship to fix him and they picked him up with NO QUESTIONS ASKED???? Because he WAS an Operative. That's how he knew.

I know that, and you know that -- but it was never explored. How was he able to "walk away?" And why?

Fortunately, those three AREN'T the only options available.

I wouldn't be surprised if a Serenity sequel had Zoe seeing visions of Wash talking to her from beyond the grave. That could be poignant, dramatic, and still full of Washy goodness.

And flashbacks are a popular cinematic device.

Only Joss knows what he's got in mid for the sequels...

Why? So they can kill off everyone else except for Simon and Kaylee, the two I'd most like to see bite it? It kinda lost it's luster for me when they killed off Wash.

only if they do the wrestling scene with Zoe, Kaylee and Anarra (sp?) I'd prefer lime jello, but it would probably be easier to write a scene where they all fall into a vat of industrical lubricant, or something.

my girl Zoe would kick the rest of their butts. I'd bet money.
