The new lilo "stupidhead" icon was made my friend [livejournal.com profile] miss_chance who still apparently has a soft spot and some time to spare for an old friend :) Thanks babe!

Well this morning was pathetic. I did The Firm's Max Cardio and Abs ... I barely made it through about 25 minutes before I just gave up. Really gave up ... sat down on the couch and fast forwarded to the Abs portion. *feh* When I do a DVD like this that so completely challenges me that I don't/can't make it through - these are the times I want to give up. I'm not going to and I'll probably run the treadmill today and do some light weights to make up for the missing 20 minutes or so....but *sigh* I am, shall we say, ~tres discouraged~.

Hon, you made it through 25 minutes. That's probably more than I could. Also your body's ability will likely cycle and that not every day will be the same level. Honor your body and the messages it tells you.

I biked last night. After 40 minutes (which is only ten minutes more than my normal) I had to give up. I couldn't do more. But I did 40 minutes, better than none.

Yay you! Thanks for the encouragement.

Hey, The Firm is tough. I have a bunch of those videos, which I used during my marriage eons ago. Today I wonder whether I would last for 10 minutes! For me, right now, 20 minutes of walking is a challenge. We also vary in energy levels based on how rested we are (or aren't), time of the month, and many other factors. I know it's all relative, but I have found that asking too much of myself on a given day feels so discouraging that I am less likely to do anything at all. So I change the goal to something absurdly realistic, like walking five minutes -- but doing it every day (and after 5 minutes, I find that I can do more). The consistency is more important for me to establish first than the total amount of time. I figure building up the time will come as the exercise becomes a truly ingrained habit.

I know you want to push yourself, but it's better not to give up than to push yourself to the point of discouragement (written from the viewpoint of one far more familiar with discouragement than with actual exercise and fitness). What you're doing is awesome, and I just wanted to say so.

Well, as Matthew pointed out below .. I'm just pushing myself to get up every day to exercise at all. I just thought my cardio level was more than it was, especially since I was able to knock out 30 min on the treadmill yesterday.

Thanks for the encouragement! Now I am going to encourage you to get out and do *something* today! *smooch*

Thank you, hon. I will! I'll be out walking today at lunch. The biggest battle right now is just establishing the habit and rearranging my life and routines to support the habit. I will write about this part soon.

The only advice I can offer is not to expect too much of yourself. You're not going to be able to do an hour of heavy exercise starting out. Your body isn't always going to be able to handle the same amount of level of exercise... what you can do one day, you wont necessarily be able to do the next. And what you cant do one day, you may be able to do another.

Give yourself time. Keep trying. And dont get down on yourself.

Like I tell my son... what matters is that you do the best you can.

I hear ya ...but I didn't really give it my best effort this morning - I kept losing my place and stopping and starting until I just stopped. I am going to go back to it, maybe not that specific tape, but I'll keep doing *something*

Thanks for supporting me.

I'm proud of you, not for any mileage or weight lifted, but because you got up and did what you planned to do.

As the others have said, some days will be better than others. Every day that you do what you planned to do as a change in your habits, as a change to your life, is a success. :) The exercise, any weight loss, any muscle tone are secondary effects to the first goal. You're changing your life, one day at a time, the only way any of us can. Today, you are a person who exercises.

:D And I think you rock.

And, as per usual, you've managed to distill things down to their basic essence ... yes, the point is to change things for *life* not just the short term.

*blush* you rock too - you and A keep me going in more ways than one.

I think the big issue is getting on a schedule and keeping to it. There are days you're more on than others but if you keep at it you'll get the benefit.

I am fairly certain that there are no more words I can add to increase encouragement that haven't been said...

So aside from saying "yea, what they said! You are totally awesome and are doing much better then me, my office is literally 100 yds away from the gym and I can't get my ass in there, so you totally rock!" ... I would also like to say that I am going to start South Beaching it coming next week, and would you say that the 30 min recipe book is worth the cost? Time is my most precious thing and if you think it is worth the price then I am seriously considering picking it up. You are encouraging me to get off my butt and start eating healthy again. So thanks :) Everyone has up and down days, but my problem has been sticking with it. And you are doing a wonderful job so far which is leading me to believe that there may be hope for me yet!

would you say that the 30 min recipe book is worth the cost?

Oh, absolutely ... okay, I admit, I'm sometimes a cookbook hor, but as a busy woman and mom to 4, wife to 1 in the house (and wife to 1 out of the house) ... I hate to spend hours in the kitchen, so I'm all about the easy and fast. This book is both. And I've made more than 5 recipes from it that have scored well, not only with me, but with my family - so any book with over 5 recipes is always a win. The secret to SB though plan ahead, no *really* so that you know pretty much what you're going to eat, if not for the next week, at least for the next few days (at least 3). Otherwise you'll find yourself in front of the fridge or pantry thinking "uh, one handful of chocolate chips isn't going to matter much" .. 'cept in the beginning, it does. As I heard on the Discovery Health National Body Challenge "giving yourself permission to cheat, is giving yourself permission to fail"

Right now, today, I'm the person that is making better choices.

Good luck babe, I am rooting for you!

My big problem is that I am lazy. That is what I plan to spend part of my weekend in town doing. Planning out recipes and food for at least the next week, if not several. As an engineering graduate student (they really aren't lying when they say you will have no time except for work), with TWO relationships OUTSIDE of the city I live in (one is 1.5 hrs away, the other is 2.5/3 hrs away), time is my most precious commodity. So I figure I will make several meals, put them into individual containers, and freeze them for the next few weeks. That way I can pull them out as I need them. Now that I live alone, it is slightly easier to deal with the standing in front of the cabinet deal. I try and buy stuff that isn't TOO bad, and now I don't have to deal with my roommates yummy-but-bad-for-you-food staring me in the face.

I think I will go pick up that book this weekend! 5 recipes is enough for me. Hell I eat the same thing for days on end, it doesn't really bother me. Eating, while it is something I LOVE to do, has become more of a nuisance then anything.

And thank you for your support! I really appreciate it. :) And I think it will help to see your posts and go...if she can do it, I can do it!

Hey

There will be good days, there will be days, what's important is that you're trying every day.

It's that last part, which make a difference in the long run.
